We're independent
LicenseWatch is an independent service. We are not part of, endorsed by, or affiliated with:
- the South African Police Service (SAPS), the Central Firearms Register (CFR) or any Designated Firearms Officer;
- Natshoot, SA Hunters, SAGA, or any other firearm or hunting association;
- Firearms Guardian;
- any firearm dealer, training provider or safe supplier.
When we mention or link to these organisations, it's because we recommend them as useful places to get help. We don't earn money from those recommendations unless we clearly say so. Their names and trademarks belong to them.
Not legal advice
The guides, explanations, checklists, estimates, motivation builder and reviews in LicenseWatch are general information to help you understand the process. They are not legal advice. For advice about your own situation, especially an expired license, a refusal or an appeal, speak to your association, Firearms Guardian or a lawyer.
SAPS information
Status information comes from the public SAPS firearm status enquiry. It can be delayed, incomplete or wrong, and SAPS may change it at any time. Always confirm important information with your DFO. Fees and rules change: confirm current fees at your police station.
Estimates
Waiting-time estimates, batch insights and "expected decision" dates are worked out from other applications tracked in LicenseWatch, or from a general guide. They're a rough guide, not a promise. SAPS can be faster or slower.
Your responsibility
You remain responsible for complying with the Firearms Control Act, including renewing your licenses and competency on time and storing your firearms safely. Reminders in LicenseWatch are there to help, not to replace your own records.
