Question 1

How do I check my SAPS firearm license status?

Accepted Answer

Add your SAPS reference number to LicenseWatch. It checks the public SAPS firearm status enquiry for you and explains the result in plain English. SAPS usually sends your reference number by SMS after you apply.

Question 2

I didn't get an SMS with my reference number. What now?

Accepted Answer

Go to the police station where you applied and ask the Designated Firearms Officer (DFO) for your reference number. Take your ID and the receipt you got when you applied.

Question 3

When must I renew my firearm license?

Accepted Answer

Hand in your renewal at least 90 days before the license expires. LicenseWatch shows the renew-by date for every firearm.

Question 4

Is LicenseWatch free?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The free plan includes automatic SAPS status tracking, alerts when your status changes and renewal reminders. LicenseWatch Pro adds personal wait-time estimates, batch insights, faster checks and more for R99 a year or R299 once-off for life.

Question 5

Is LicenseWatch the SAPS website?

Accepted Answer

No. LicenseWatch is an independent service and is not affiliated with SAPS or the Central Firearms Register (CFR). It checks the public SAPS firearm status enquiry for you.
